Hand Braided Jute grey Border Rug

An eco-friendly rug, made from locally sourced jute, featuring a light grey braided border. This rug has been hand-braided by local artisans. Jute is a plant fibre that is renewable, eco-friendly and very durable. What’s more, jute offerings are known to be quite low-maintenance. The fibres are first extracted by retting. The retting process consists of bundling jute stems together and immersing them in low, running water. After the retting process, stripping begins. In the stripping process, non-fibrous matter is scraped off, while the fibres found inside the jute stem are retained for braiding, a labour-intensive and time-consuming craft, done entirely by hand. Perfect for balconies, outdoors and indoors, this rug makes for a conscious purchase.
