Hand Braided Jute Mat

This floor mat is consciously made from natural jute. It has been made using the artisanal technique of hand braiding. One of the fascinating features of the braiding method is that the material does not even touch the loom, let alone any powered machine. The braids made bear a very close resemblance to the way Indian women tie their hair for centuries now. The braiding style of the hair was what went on to become an inspiration for the Indian weavers. Despite being rarer in production because of the manual attention every piece needs, articles woven out of the braided process are usually much sturdier and durable. This is a quality that is relatively lesser in a flat or loomed weave.
